Beacon of Hope: Holly Wade
Remembering Holly Wade: A Legacy of Love, Creativity, and Hope
My precious Holly was a bright, radiant light who graced this world for only a short time, yet she left an impact that will last forever. She was born with an abundance of love, creativity, and an unwavering spirit. Holly was so much more than her incredible list of accomplishments, she was a beautiful soul who embodied kindness and compassion, even in the face of life’s greatest challenges.
By the time she was 13, Holly had already made her mark as a published writer, actress, and model. She loved stories and performing, and her vibrant imagination overflowed into everything she touched. She had this amazing ability to memorize lines instantly and to pour emotion into her words. But her real gift wasn’t just talent, it was the way she made people feel. She was a constant source of joy, laughter, and comfort to her friends, our family, and even strangers.
I remember vividly when things started to change. Holly’s sharp memory and focus began to fade, and she was plagued by pounding headaches and sudden vomiting. I pushed for answers, and when the MRI results came back, our world turned upside down. Holly was diagnosed with Gliosarcoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive brain cancers. She was only 14.
Even then, Holly never stopped being Holly. After her surgery, she couldn’t speak and was paralyzed on her right side, yet she fought her way back with courage that left doctors astonished. The very first word she spoke again was “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” That was Holly, playful, resilient, and determined to keep shining, no matter what.
What struck me most was that even as she faced the unimaginable, she thought more about others than herself. Holly’s heart was always turned outward. She dreamed of helping families like ours, families suddenly thrust into the chaos of pediatric cancer. Before she left us, she co-founded what became the Hands for Holly Memorial Fund, a nonprofit that over six years gave away more than $1 million to families in financial crisis while caring for a child with cancer. That was Holly’s true legacy, her final wish was to make life a little easier for others walking the same terrifying road.
Her spirit continues to ripple outward today. Through programs like Growing Hope Through Art, we honor her love for creativity and beauty by creating public works that inspire hope and healing. Both the fund and this art initiative are part of Holly’s story, proof that one extraordinary young girl can change the world in ways far beyond her years.
Holly left us far too soon, but she taught us so much. She showed us how to live with bravery, how to meet hardship with grace, and how to love without limits. Her life reminds us that every single day is an opportunity to create memories, to pour love into the people around us, and to leave behind a little more kindness than we found.
We love you, Holly. We miss you every day. Your light will never fade, it will continue to inspire, to heal, and to remind us all of the incredible difference one person can make.
